223rd Glasgow Company Boys' Brigade

There are three sections of the Boys’ Brigade that meet on various nights of the week in the church halls from September through to June.

Anchor boys

This, the youngest section of the BB, is for boys in Primaries 1, 2 and 3 and meets at 6.30 – 7.30pm on a Thursday in the Cowley Hall. There are many activities, all centred around having fun to start them off on their BB career and prepare them for the Junior Section.

Junior Section

The Junior Section welcomes boys in Primaries 4, 5 and 6 and meets in the Cowley Hall on Wednesdays between 6.55 and 8.30pm. Our activities include football, basketball, volleyball and many other team games, which sit alongside marching and our achievement scheme. There are also craft nights, festival celebrations and district competitions including swimming and sports as well as day trips and our annual weekend camp to St Andrews. We hold membership of the Scotland football team supporters club and regularly attend home matches.

Company Section

Our Boys’ Brigade Company Section meets on Fridays between 7.15 and 10pm and welcomes boys from primary 7 to secondary 5 (inclusive). There is a broad-ranging programme of activities, sports and interests, which embrace our achievement scheme and are included in our badge structure.

On our regular nights these include football, badminton, basketball, table tennis, volleyball, gymnastics, first aid, crime prevention, woodwork, model making, cookery and many others.

The boys also enjoy participation in district competitions, football, swimming, athletics, cross-country and badminton, a games marathon and sponsored walks.

A highlight in our calendar is our annual weekend camp to Teen Ranch in Perthshire where the boys participate in horse riding, archery, mountain biking, canoeing and rifle shooting to name but a few. We also regularly welcome visitors to talk to the boys about specific topics, which can be related to a particular career or interest. Senior boys also get the opportunity to participate in national BB events. For a number of years we have been able to offer to a small number of senior boys the opportunity to the crew one of the sailing ships participating in the Tall Ships Challenge.
