ARE YOU INTERESTED IN APPLYING TO JOIN THE YOUNG PEOPLE & CHURCH OF SCOTLAND WORKING GROUP?
At the General Assembly of 2017 the Mission & Discipleship Council was given the task of developing a new way of helping our young people to grow in their faith and be involved in decision making at all levels of the church. If adopted this would then succeed the National Youth Assembly from 2020 onwards.
Our Council is looking for 7 people, preferably in the 12 to 30 year old age bracket, who in addition to the 7 from our Council, will make up the group of 14. They will consult widely and develop the proposals which will then go to the General Assembly of 2019 for decision. Before that an interim report will be given to the General Assembly of 2018 to let them know our progress. Successful applicants must commit to a process that could last up to 3 years with a number of meetings throughout the year. The first meeting is Saturday 14th October; in Stirling. Expenses will be paid so please don’t let the issue of money put you off. The closing date for applications is 31st August. Application and reference forms are available from the church office. Norman Smith, Convenor of Mission & Discipleship Council
NEW WORLD MISSION STAMP APPEAL – You are invited to raise money for World Mission by saving your used postage stamps! It’s a simple way to recycle and help World Mission partner projects. The Appeal will support the Giffen Institute of Theology, Presbyterian Church of South Sudan (PCSS). The Institute trains 75% of PCSS ministers, playing a vital role in educating and equipping students for ministry. Due to violence in South Sudan over the last few years the Institute has twice had to relocate to ensure the safety of staff and students. Sadly, this has meant many of its resources were lost. Now re-established in a refugee camp in Kenya, the Institute needs to rebuild its resources, including replacing the books lost when its library was burned down. Your used stamps can help ensure the Institute’s work training the future ministers of South Sudan continues. Please save your stamps for this worthwhile cause and deposit them in the box in the Hall of Friendship.
SHAWL MINISTRY: The next meeting at Garthamlock and Craigend Parish Church will take place on 26th August at 10.30am. Anyone who would like a lift to the meeting, meet outside Greenbank at 10am.
