The Church Choir

Church Choir

Music plays an important role in our worship at Greenbank and we are fortunate to enjoy a wide variety of styles and formats of music and related activities that take place in our church. These activities provide opportunities for church members and the local community to be involved with the church’s music, be it taking part in our musical organisations or simply listening to an extensive range of music.

In addition we have hosted a number of concerts by outside musical organisations, including the very talented musicians from local schools.
The current Organist and Choir Leader is Peter Howard.
The various musical activities of the church include the following:

The Church Choir

Our choir take part in all of the Sunday morning services throughout the year by leading the sung worship and singing an introit at the start of the service. We also sing an anthem during many of the morning services between September and April/May. The Choir are affiliated with The Royal School of Church Music, and we make use of their excellent resources on a regular basis.

We are fortunate to have approximately 20 committed singers but are always keen to welcome anyone new who wishes to join us, we could especially do with some more male singers! The choir rehearse on Thursday evenings from 7:30pm to 9:30pm between September and April in the church – anyone can come along to join us, there is no requirement to read music.

The weekly choir music is chosen by our Organist and Choir Leader to fit in with the readings of the Lectionary for that particular week or the theme of a special service such as Harvest. In the past year we have sang music dating back to the 16th & 17th centuries through to pieces composed within the last couple of years.

Monthly Recitals

During the winter months we host monthly recitals by visiting musicians, mainly organists. These are held at 1.00 pm on the third Saturday of the month. Entry is free, the recitals last from 30 – 40 minutes and there is usually a chance to chat over a cup of tea or coffee afterwards.
