Children’s Christmas Eve Service Order of Service

Christmas Service and Intimations at Greenbank Church Clarkston

Children’s Christmas Eve Service 24th December 2016 at 6.30pm

A WORD OF WELCOME

¯PRAISE Crackers and Turkey

Crackers and Turkey and pudding and cream,

Toys in the windows that I’ve never seen.

This is the Christmas that everyone sees, But Christmas means more to me.

It’s somebody’s birthday I won’t forget, as I open the things that I get.

I’ll remember the inn and the stable so bare, and Jesus who once lay there.

Everyone’s out shopping late every night,

For candles and present and Christmas tree lights.

This is the Christmas that everyone sees,

But Christmas means more to me.

Christmas morning, the start of the day, There’s presents to open and new games to play.

This is the Christmas that everyone sees, but Christmas means more to me.

WELCOMING MARY AND JOSEPH

PRAYER

¯ PRAISE It was on a Starry Night

It was on a starry night when the hills were bright. Earth lay sleeping, sleeping calm and still.

Then in a cattle shed, in a manger bed a boy was born, king of all the world.

And all the angels sang for him, the bells of heaven rang for him

for a boy was born, king of all the world. [Twice]

Soon the shepherds came that way where the baby lay and were kneeling, kneeling by his side.

And their hearts believed again for the peace of men, for a boy was born, king of all the world.

THE CHRISTINGLE STORY

¯ PRAISE Sing Christingle

The Christingle begins with an orange,

Telling us of the world God made.

For creation is full of his glory;

All around we see his love displayed.

Chorus

Sing Christingle Sing Christingle Sing Christingle,

it’s the light of Christ.

Sing Christingle Sing Christingle Sing Christingle,

light of Christ.

Every year we give thanks for the seasons,

And the fruits of the earth to share.

The Christingle is here to remind us,

That the love of God is everywhere.

God of love, we give thanks now for Jesus;

We remember his birth again.

But the red ribbon round the Christingle,

Tells the story of his cross and pain

To complete the Christingle: a candle,

Shining out in the darkest night.

Jesus promised to lead us and guide us;

Come and celebrate the world’s true light!

GOD CAME DOWN

MANGER PRAYERS

¯ PRAISE Christmas isn’t Christmas

Christmas isn’t Christmas till it happens in your heart

Somewhere deep inside you is where Christmas really starts.

So give your heart to Jesus; you’ll discover when you do

That it’s Christmas, really Christmas for you.

Jesus brings warmth like a winter fire, alight like a candle’s glow

He’s waiting now to come inside, as he did so long ago.

Jesus brings gifts of truth and life, and makes them bloom and grow.

So welcome him with a song of joy and when he comes you’ll know.

That Christmas isn’t Christmas till it happens in your heart

Somewhere deep inside you is where Christmas really starts.

So give your heart to Jesus; you’ll discover when you do

That it’s Christmas, really Christmas for you.

PRAYER

¯PRAISE Away In A Manger

Away in a manger , no crib for a bed,

the little Lord Jesus laid down his sweet head;

the stars in the bright sky looked down where he lay,

the little Lord Jesus asleep on the hay.

The cattle are lowing, the Baby awakes,

but little Lord Jesus no crying he makes.

I love you, Lord Jesus! look down from the sky,

and stay by my side until morning is nigh.

Be near me, Lord Jesus; I ask you to stay

close by me for ever, and love me, I pray.

Bless all the dear children in your tender care,

and fit us for heaven, to live with you there.
