223rd BOYS
BRIGADE
Anchor Boys
We’ve had another
enjoyable year at Anchor Boys. We had 25 boys this year from P1s to P3s. We
had a Halloween Party, fireworks, Christmas Party and finished the year with our
annual display. We’ve played lots of games with dodgy ball still being the
favourite and been coached by the coach from EK Ladies football team! Thanks to
all the staff for their help and support. We’re looking forward to our new
session, which starts on the 2nd September. If you’d like to join
us, contact:
Stephen, Officer
in Charge
Junior
Section
This has been a
busy year for the Junior Section. We’ve made posters and cards at our craft
night. We’ve been to the panto, the Scotland football match, and Millport and
we’ve won the District Sports Cup and the Swimming Cup. Well done to everyone
involved. See you next session.

Company
Section BB
The
Company section comprises of 23 boys from P7 – S5. We have 23 boys in this
section and this year we welcomed 6 new boys up from the Junior Section. We
have had a successful year in the District: Competitions, winning gold in the
junior and intermediate badminton singles, gold and bronze in junior doubles and
bronze in the intermediate doubles. Two boys took part in the table tennis,
Greg and Calum and Alistair and Sam represented the company in the District
sports. Alistair also represented the company and the district at the
cross-country event and won a bronze and gold medal. Well done to all of them.
Thirteen boys went to Team Ranch for the weekend. Finally many congratulations
to Alistair McCallum and Calum Downham who become Queen’s Men after gaining
they’re Queen’s Badge award.

Clarkston Brownies
On Tuesday, 30th March, the brownies entertained family and
friends by singing, playing music, magic tricks and dancing and gymnastic
displays. This was to raise money for the Haiti earthquake disaster. They
raised about £140 – a great effort. Thanks go to Snowy Owl (Charlotte
Coyle) and Goldie Owl (Hazel McIntosh) who organised the brownies to do so
well.
On the weekend of 26th to 28th March, four of our
Brownies, together with Brown Owl (Liz Paton) attended the East Renfrewshire
County Pack Holiday at Netherurd. A great time was had by all with the
highlights including tackling the ‘ropes course’ and the ‘zip wire’,
learning some old street games and the Centenary Party on the Saturday
night. Certainly something to remember in years to come! (Brown Owl
remembers being at the 50th Anniversary outing when she was a
Brownie!!)
Finally, we said ‘goodbye’
to four of our older Brownies recently and are pleased to welcome four new
girls – Elice, Grace, Lucy, and Juliette.

Clarkston Guides
As I write this, 30 of us are getting organised to join girls from all over
the County at East Renfrewshire’s Centenary Camp. Over 300 girls are
expected so it should be an amazing weekend. Let’s just hope the weather is
kind to us.
We have had another successful year with most girls gaining several badges
and Go For Its. Instead of an Easter party or Easter crafts this year, we
decided to finish off the term by completing the chocolate badge. As well
as learning about the history of chocolate, fair trade chocolate and
designing their own chocolate bar, the girls tasted several different types
of chocolate to decide on their favourite. We collected eggs for the
Lodging House Mission and we raised money for Comic Relief.
We are finishing off with two nights at Eastwood Park lighting fires each
time and cooking on them followed by an outing to Eastwood Theatre to see
one of the Guides in Harlequin’s version of Thoroughly Modern Millie. As our
waiting list for next year is now exceptionally long, I would recommend that
any girl who may be interested in joining us over the next couple of years
contact me now to add her name as it is looking as though we will be short
of places.
We hope
everyone has a good summer and look forward to restarting on Monday 30th
