LODGING HOUSE MISSION- page 1 The Lodging House Mission (LHM) has operated in Glasgow for over 100 years and provides essential support to homeless and vulnerable people. No one is turned away and individuals have food, warmth and companionship during the day from Sunday to Friday each week of the year. There is no overnight accommodation at the LHM. The on exclusion policy makes the LHM the busiest service of its kind in the city with an average of 120 people coming through their doors each day. Those who use the LHM are affected by severe and enduring mental health issues, addiction to drugs and or alcohol, and in many ways are socially excluded. The drop in café is open from 8am-3pm Monday to Friday offering free cereal for breakfast and free soup and sandwiches at lunchtime, and from 4pm-7pm on Sunday offering free soup and sandwiches. Cooked food is also available throughout the day at subsidised prices. In 2009 around 32,500 lunches were served. The LHM does not receive any government funding and relies entirely on the goodwill of people like us for support. AGM I attended the AGM on Thursday, 22nd April. This was very interesting and in addition to hearing about their work and financial situation we also learned that their heating system is broken. Replacement will have to be undertaken which will be another financial challenge. APPEAL FOR TINS AND HOMEBAKING The LHM experienced a reduction in donations at harvest time and they would appreciate donations of tins of peas or carrots. Please leave tins in the large buckets, which are in the link building and in the hall of friendship. Donations of home baking would also be welcome. I am able to deliver home baking to the LHM most Mondays or Tuesdays. Give me a call in advance to arrange this, or I can direct you there if other days are more convenient for you. “GET ON YER BIKE” One of our members, John Walker, is taking p art in a 16 mile sponsored cycle on Saturday, 26th June to raise funds for the LHM. Please support the LHM by sponsoring John. There is a sponsor form on the Centenary Chapel or you can find me in the hall after Sunday morning services. **For further details please contact the webmaster or the church office |
