Good Neighbour P5

ED’ LINES

It’s often said that your school days are the best times of your life, and they possibly are.  We reminisce more the older we get!  People look back on the “good old days” with fondness. Things that were once seen as hardships now bring a smile to our faces.

We remember summers so hot that the tar melted, winters so cold the frost was on the inside of the windows, gob stoppers that made your jaws ache and Opal Fruits!

It was wonderful last Sunday to join with the B.B. to celebrate their last 125 years.  Next Sunday is Remembrance Sunday when we will remember the men and women who have, and still are giving their lives for their country.  Over the next year we will be celebrating the fact that our Church has been here for125 years.  Although this is a time of remembrance, it gives us a great opportunity to look forward to the future.  It was great to see so many young people in the Church last week.  If they are our future we have much about which to be hopeful.  Last month a questionnaire was sent out in the Good Neighbour, now it’s your chance.  Fill it in!  Ask questions, then you can shape the future of our Church for the next 125 years.  There are three types of people, those who let it happen, those who make it happen and those who wonder what happened.  Which one are you?

Alison.

SONGS OF PRAISE

As part of the 125th Anniversary next year we will hold a month long music festival during the month of February.  Part of this music festival is a Songs of Praise Service featuring YOUR favourite hymns.  To make this service special and meaningful I need your help!

Please let us know your favourite hymn.  You can do this by filling in the tear-off slip in the paper copy of the magazine or by e-mailing church.organist@blueyonder.co.uk with your name, the name of your favourite hymn and the reasons why it is your favourite.

The reasons why it is your favourite hymn could be:

  •        because of a special meaning the text has for you

  •        the music and words working together creating a special meaning or thought

  •        it could have been sung at your wedding

  •        it could be a favourite from school

  •        the list could go on and on, and on!!!

I look forward to getting your replies.  The hymns that are chosen to be part of the service in February will require the chooser to come forward and give a brief account of why it is their favourite hymn. So, get looking out those hymn books (past and present) so we can plan a wonderful evening.

Thanks
